This may or may not come as a surprise to some people, but there’s more to investing than just putting money into stocks — a LOT more. Even combining just the simple, conventional “Stocks and Bonds” portfolio may not be enough to get you where you want to go.
It took the Big Crash of 2008 for me in the early days of my career to learn that the successful investors used more than just stocks, or stocks and bonds, when working on building their nest eggs. And while not everyone needs to have a huge variety of investments, just knowing that other tools may be available to you is a big step forward.
